Description, history and benefits of Auricular Acupuncture

Auricular Acupuncture is a specialised Complementary Therapy where Acupuncture points on the outer ear are treated, using either Acupuncture needles or Electro-Acupuncture to help relieve many chronic complaints.

There are as many as two hundred and sixty known Acupuncture points on the outer ear, each point named generally after areas of the anatomy ie. knees, hips, shoulders, liver, etc. The outer ear acts as a conduit between the brain and the specific area of the body that is being treated.

The ear, similar to the feet in Reflexology acts as a microcosm of the body with the shape of the ear resembling a near-term foetus in the inverted position in the womb (known as the Chinese Foetus Representation).

Auricular Acupuncture is an effective treatment for most chronic complaints. Success rates, according to the Society of Auricular Acupuncture can be as high as 95%. In my practice I have had astonishing results with menstrual regulation, pmt symptoms and conception after only a short course of treatment. I've also seen astonishing results with Tinnitus and those suffering from Chronic Fatigue syndrome / ME, again, results become evident only shortly after treatment has begun and only require regular top-up from time to time after the course of treatment is completed.

Common conditions that are treated effectively are as follows; anxiety, arthritis, asthma, back pain, colitis, depression, hay fever, additions, PMT, M.E to name but a few. For more information see the Auricular Society's website www.auricularacupuncture.org.uk
